Sailwinds Park has been a community treasure on Cambridge’s waterfront for more than 25 years. Residents and visitors alike come to whoosh down the playground’s slides, to stroll the boardwalk with their dogs, to gaze out at the Choptank River, to watch the sun rise over the flying goose statue. They come to fish from the pier, to dip their toes in the lagoon, to walk among the powerful Flags for Heroes display.
Now is the time to invest in a new vision for the waterfront park to meet today’s realities and embrace tomorrow’s possibilities.
As more people discover the charms of Dorchester County – from its history to its food and arts scene to its natural beauty – Sailwinds Park serves as an essential introduction to the area and a sign of the friendly community we have here.
The park is located on the most visible piece of waterfront for anyone driving into Cambridge from the west over the Malkus Bridge. With major development in the planning stages on adjacent land, an improved park can help show potential developers the promise and potential of the county.
The time is now to restore, upgrade, and expand the park’s amenities. Funds raised through this campaign will be used to tackle priorities such as improving the playground and renovating the goose monument, picnic pavilion, beach, and boardwalk.
The park was born of a community movement more than 25 years ago, when 100 “founders” – local businesses and individuals – committed funds to bring Sailwinds Park and other important economic development projects to reality. It’s time to revisit that commitment. Today, we are asking for support to move Sailwinds Park to a new level.
We invite you to join community members, businesses, and organizations in becoming a part of the Sailwinds Park Waterfront 2021 Campaign to ensure a strong future for the park and to continue Dorchester County’s significant economic revitalization.
